4:19 to Paso - Rosé

It's 4:19 on a warm afternoon and after a challenging day you're ready to kick it with a cool and tasty glass of rosé in hand. Our 2023 4:19 To Paso Rosé should do it for you. We picked our Grenache specifically for rosé in early September and limited skin contact to under two hours. This resulted in a bright, satisfyingly dry and lightly hued rosé with Provençal tipicity. This rosé is the perfect starter, but also pairs well with cured meats, hard cheeses, poultry and Zenaido's late night carnitas tacos.

Profits generated through the sale of our 4:19 To Paso Rosé are shared with Paso Cares, an organization that provides for the immediate and longer-term needs of homeless residents of Paso Robles and SLO County.

Excuse My Dust - Edna Valley Chardonnay

Our 2022 Excuse My Dust Chardonnay is elegant and refined; comparable to a white burgundy as opposed to an often over-oaked California chard. Post fermentation, this wine rested sur lie for a brief six weeks in four new Burgundy barrels before being relocated to neutral French oak for another eight months of aging. This resulted in a wine with sufficient softness and only a subtle hint of oak; a chardonnay distinct from Steel Reins - our other Santa Lucia Highlands chardonnay offering. Stylistically, we consider Excuse My Dust our "classic" chardonnay and of the two chards we offer the wine that is the most food friendly.

Profits generated through the sale of our 2022 Excuse My Dust Chardonnay are shared with the Emilio Velci Share Aloha Project, a SLO County based organization that is working passionately to raise awareness of and end the Fentanyl crisis.

La Macha

Our 2021 La Macha is a complex blend of mataro (40%), garnacha (30%), tempranillo (23%) and graciano (7%). Each varietal has its own story and makes a unique contribution to this blend. Tempranillo is bright and bouyant. The earthy mataro tempers the acidity in the tempranillo just enough. Graciano shows up with spice and intensity. The grenache provides a degree of sweetness that balances what would otherwise be a wine a bit too dry for us to compare it to a Rioja, which we very often do.

Sales of our 2021 La Macha will raise funds for 805UndocuFund - a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to working families within our community that due to their immigration status are not eligible for government programs.

Pray for Love - Edna Valley Pinot Noir

Our 2021 Pray For Love is a deliciously light, summery Pinot Noir that could also be the perfect accompaniment to Thanksgiving dinner but only if you can hang on to some until the holidays. We will most likely be sold out by then! We sourced this fruit from Jesperson Vineyard in Edna Valley - as we did with our 2019 vintage Pray For Love. In truth we have been alternating our pinot clone selection each vintage between the 115 clone - which this vintage is - and the 777 clone which this vintage is definitely not! If you enjoyed any of our 2020 Pray For Love you may remember it for its density and dark cherry flavor. This 2021 vintage is its exact opposite. It is very light in color and body with bright berry flavors and a bouquet that is much more characteristic of a pinot.

Profits from Pray For Love are shared with Wine4Paws to help raise funds for Woods Humane Society - an organization that provides pet adoption services and the humane care of dogs & cats in SLO County. Dogs and cats that we like to think are praying for someone to take them home and love them, hence the name of this wine.

Reserve Grenache

This is a very special, wine club only Grenache that we believe is the finest wine we've produced since launching the Hayseed and Housdon brand in 2016. This 100% Alban clone Grenache was sourced from Jesperson Vineyard in Edna Valley in 2021. This wine was aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months. We feel this is a perfect example of what a California Grenache has the potential to be when grown in a cooler climate:  ample fruit with a characteristic baking spice finish - but moderate in body and thus definitely less aggressive than what one normally experiences with Grenache wines sourced from vineyards in the Paso AVA. We hope you appreciate this wine as much as we do - though if you don't that basically just means there will be a few more bottles for us to enjoy. We will surely drink a lot of this fine Reserve Grenache before it sells out...!

Rhône Rodeo - GSM

Did you know that one of the largest rodeos in the world takes place each year in Saint-Agrève – about a half-day horse ride from the Rhône River in southern France? We didn't either and when we found out it inspired us to name our blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre Rhône Rodeo. We sourced this fruit from La Vista Vineyard and Hastings Ranch - both in the Adelaida District and about 11 miles west of Paso Robles. Due to the proximity of these vineyards to the coast and their relatively high elevation (about 1,500 feet) these grapes were exposed to more ambient moisture and generally cooler temperatures than the grapes grown elsewhere within the Paso Robles AVA. For this reason, our Rhone Rodeo GSM is a bit more buoyant than your typical Paso GSM - but still with the nice spice and complexity that Paso GSM fans expect.

Profits generated through the sale of our Rhône Rodeo GSM are shared with CASA of San Luis Obispo, an organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the court system.

Steel Reins - Chardonnay

First-time Hayseed tasting garage visitors occasionally announce - upon looking at our tasting menu - that they are "over" Chardonnay. We get it. We attended far too many low-budget weddings on excruciatingly hot summer days when we were in our 20s and 30s where some incredibly cheap over-oaked chardonnay was served. It is very satisfying, then, to have our customers experience the surprise of our Steel Reins stainless steel fermented chardonnay. It is light, crisp, dry and obviously NOT oaked. Anyway, if you are a chablis style chardonnay lover, or perhaps someone who thinks they've lost the taste for the world's second most popular grape, we know you'll discover a lot to love about our 2022 Steel Reins.

Profits generated through the sale of our 2022 Steel Reins Chardonnay are split 50/50 with Lumina Alliance, a SLO County-based organization that provides crisis intervention, counseling and other services to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence.

Our apologies - we've sold out of our 2022 Steel Reins chardonnay. The good news is that we hope to bottle our 2023 within the next handful of weeks. Please monitor our social media @hayseedwine for a release notice...!

Warrior - Cabernet & Petite Sirah Blend

Our Warrior blend is an alliance of two formidable forces:  the popular Cabernet Sauvignon and the renegade Petite Sirah. Warrior surrounds the palette with bold waves of ripe plum, black currant and tobacco. It is powerful in flavor and well structured thanks to aging for 34 months in a combination of new and neutral French oak barrels. Though its flavor is bold, Warrior is surprisingly agile with an ABV of only 14.1%. We often hear from our customers that Warrior is one of the best valued West Side Cab blend available in Paso Robles. They must be on to something, because we typically sell out of each new vintage in a mere handful of months.

Profits from the sale of Warrior are shared with Operation Surf, an SLO County based organization that helps wounded and injured active duty military and veteran heroes move forward in a positive direction through an epic, life-changing surfing experience.
